Note: Motion's Desktop App Tabs are limited to the desktop app. This feature will not be available for use on Motion's browser or mobile versions.

Summary:

With all the collaborative, productivity-enhancing tools available within Motion, it can be a shame to switch back and forth between them and risk losing that spark of inspiration. With this in mind, we are proud to announce the launch of Motion Tabs for the Desktop App.

With Motion Desktop Tabs you will have the power to keep 3 tabs open at one time, allowing users to manage different tasks, projects, and views simultaneously for minimized context switching and maximum productivity. Eliminate the need to switch between browser tabs to manage multiple views in Motion. In this article we will breakdown the key features of Motion's Desktop Tabs and highlight why Motion Desktop Tabs are the update you've been waiting for.

How to Create a New Motion Desktop Tab

Follow the instructions below:

  1. Atop the Motion Desktop App, select the + sign to open a new tab

  2. Additionally, double-clicking a task, project, doc, workspace, or saved view will allow for the option to 'open in new tab'.

Key Features of Motion Desktop Tabs:

Multiple Active Tabs

Motion's Desktop Tabs will allow for up to 3 active tabs at once, which will allow users to utilize a multitude of Motion tools and features simultaneously. Whether you are working on an ongoing project and want to have all your tasks and resources at your fingertips, or simply want to view multiple team workspaces at once, the options are yours to customize.

Sidebar Consistency

Navigating between tabs leaves your Motion sidebar unchanged ensuring consistency and optimal performance while working across tabs. All tabs are synced in real-time, meaning any changes you make in one tab—like editing a task or updating a project—will automatically appear across all other open tabs.

Long gone are the days of keeping multiple web browser tabs open to support your Motion endeavors. Not only is that process less efficient, but keeping multiple web browser tabs open can risk slowing down the processing speed of your device.

Sleep Mode

With Motion Desktop Tabs, your inactive tabs enter a sleep mode that allows your device to maintain peak performance allowing you and your device to operate at your optimal efficiency. This sleep mode is initiated after periods of inactivity in an unused tab.

All ongoing work in a dormant tab is kept safe and secure, and will automatically revert back to a live, editor mode upon navigating back to that tab. So whether you are sinking all your productive power into a project in a single tab or simply attending a meeting for a period of time, you can rest assured knowing your progress in your other Motion tabs is safe and awaiting your return.

(Please note: Refreshing your desktop app without saving your work in a dormant tab can cause data loss. We suggest saving your work as you go to avoid any such instances.)

Navigating and Closing Tabs

  • To navigate across your Motion Tabs, simply select from your available, open tabs atop the desktop app.

  • Any progress made on a previous tab will be saved and available upon your return to that tab.

  • To close a Motion Tab, simply select the 'x' located on the right-hand side of the tab atop the desktop app.

Conclusion:

Motion Tabs are here to take your operational efficiency to the next level. Whether you are looking to enhance your multi-tasking efforts, get the most out of Motions productivity-boosting features, or simultaneously navigate your views, projects and workspaces; Motion Tabs are the feature for you.
