Ad-Hoc Stages in Motion Projects

Summary

Ad-Hoc Stages are designed to bring a new level of flexibility and customization to your active and ongoing Motion projects. With the the use of Ad-Hoc Stages, you can seamlessly insert additional stages into your established projects, allowing you to iterate and adapt to any changes thrown your way, or simply capitalize when creative inspiration strikes. Below we will outline the key features and accessibility of Motion's Ad-Hoc Stages.

Key Features:

  1. Project Flexibility and Customization

    1. Easily add a new stage between existing stages to incorporate additional project details or added review/prep time for upcoming stages.

    2. Adapt your project on-the-fly to accommodate evolving requirements, making it perfect for scenarios like adding incremental checkpoints for better quality control.

    3. Quickly delete stages from your project if adjustments prove unnecessary, ensuring your workflow remains lean and targeted.

    4. Note: Your project timeline will adjust automatically when stages are added or deleted.

  2. Integration with Your Existing Workflows

    1. Seamlessly integrate your newly created stage(s) into your other active projects through the use of reusable stages (coming soon).

    2. Maintain the overall structure and integrity of your workflow while adding necessary adjustments or elaborations.

    3. Manage multiple stages with an intuitive interface designed to support efficient workflow modifications.

  3. Project-Specific Changes

    1. A key feature of Adhoc Stages is project isolation:

      1. Project-Only Changes: Adhoc Stages affect only the specific project where they're added.

      2. Template Protection: Your Project Workflow Templates remain unchanged, preserving standardization for future projects.

Adding an Ad-Hoc Stage to Your Project:

  1. Navigate to your project within Motion that you wish to add an Ad-Hoc Stage.

  2. Choose to insert an Ad-Hoc Stage between existing stages.

  3. Create and name your new project stage.

    1. Optional: You can adjust the color of this stage by selecting the arrow icon to the left of the stage name.

  4. Once your stage name and duration have been set, select 'Create New Stage' to proceed.

  5. You will be prompted to confirm the changes being made to your project and the disconnect from the workflow template this project was created from (this is intentional).

  6. Once the stage has been added to your project, adjust the stage details and settings as required. Then, add tasks to your newly created Ad-Hoc Stage and you are good to go!

Cancelling or Removing Ad-Hoc Stages From a Motion Project

  1. Open the project you wish to edit.

  2. Select the specific Ad-Hoc Stage you wish to delete.

  3. Located to the right of the stage name select either the grey 'x' to cancel the stage, or select the red 'garbage can' icon to delete the stage entirely.

  4. When deleting a created stage you will be prompted to select if you would like to:

    1. Delete all tasks in the removed stage.

    2. Move all tasks to the next stage of the project.

    3. Move all tasks to the previous stage of the project.

Conclusion:

By incorporating Ad-Hoc Stages, Motion ensures your projects remain agile and finely tuned to deliver world-class results. The next time you need to adapt an ongoing project with an additional review, audit, or any new process step, you can add it seamlessly without disrupting your templates or other projects.
