Introducing Folders
Note: This article assumes you've read "How to Set Up Your Workspace (Recommendations Based on Use Case)" [Link]. If you haven't, we recommend starting there for foundational concepts.
TL;DR:
One of Motion's key value props for our customers is enhanced organization through Motion's unique tooling offerings. We've learned how Workspaces can help group and organize your projects; let's now take a look at how we can enhance that organization through the addition of ‘Folders’ in your Workspace(s).
In this article, we will discuss what Workspace Folders are and why they should be utilized in your workspace to enhance your organizational practices.
Utilizing Folders for Workspace Optimization:
What Are Folders?
Folders are a simple yet effective way to organize your projects in Motion. They allow you to:
Group projects together by themes, teams, dates, or any structure you choose.
Nest folders within folders for deeper levels of organization.
Rearrange folders in the sidebar, with the structure applied globally across your workspace for everyone to see.
Add colors to folders for visual differentiation.
Manage and move projects into folders directly from the list view with bulk-editing.
How to Use Folders:
1. Create Folders Easily
To create, simply select the '+' button to the right of your preferred Workspace and select ‘New Folder’.
2. Nest and Rearrange Folders
If you need ‘subcategories’, you can nest folders within each other for detailed organization.
To rearrange folders in the sidebar, simply drag and drop, and the changes should apply to the entire workspace so everyone on the team stays aligned.
Existing projects can also easily be dragged and dropped from their ‘Workspace’ into ‘Folders’ for easy organization.
3. Add Colors to Folders
Assign colors to folders to make your workspace visually intuitive. Whether you’re categorizing by priority, department, or timeline, colors help you identify folders at a glance.
To assign a color to a folder, simply hover over the fold and click on the ‘three-dot’ icon, then choose the color that you’d like.
4. Organize Projects with Bulk Edits
Folders are now a dedicated column in the list view, making it easier to organize projects in bulk.
