Summary:

Part of what makes Motions project management offerings so helpful is the ability to view your project(s) from a multitude of informative views.

Whether you prefer a more detailed, analytical perspective, a big-picture overview, a timeline-oriented understanding, or simply a quick highlight of your projects, Motion has a view for you.

This article will outline the different Project views Motion has to offer as well as detail the use cases and benefits for each view. Let’s dive in!

Introducing Project Views in Motion

Motion offers three distinct project views to meet your project management needs: the List View, the Gantt View, and the Kanban View. To access the different project views simply navigate to the ‘All Projects’ tab on the left-hand side of the Motion interface. Each project view is unique and offers a variety of benefits. Let’s learn more about these views below!

The List View

How to Use the List View:

The List View offers the most detail and customization of the 3 project views. In the List View, you can observe all of your projects in a detailed list format including all the individual tasks associated with that project. Each task is selectable and editable directly from the List View. The List View also offers a collapsable toggle to hide displayed project details based on your filtering, reducing clutter when you are finished editing.

Another aspect that makes the List View so unique is the ability to display and customize sortable column details for each of your projects. The display order of these columns can be fully personalized to your liking, and each individual column can be removed from the display .

These columns include, but as not limited to: ETA, Assignee, Deadline, Start Date, Labels, Workspace, and Priority.

Utilizing column displays will allow you to create the specific view that best fits your needs for the most streamlined project review.

Upsides of List View:

  • The most detailed project view with all essential project task information provided.

  • Efficiently sort through project tasks using the fully customizable data columns.

  • Bulk-action edits allow you to edit a variety of project tasks at once.

Setback(s) of List View:

  • With all the task information present, the view can potentially feel cluttered if you have a multitude of lengthy projects (be sure to utilize the collapsable toggles).

The Gantt View

How to Use the Gantt View

The Gantt View is the quintessential perspective for long-term project overviews. With an emphasis on project timeline management, the Gantt View allows you to analyze your projects side-by-side to one another in a linear format that allows for effortless comparison of project timelines.

Whether you want to extend a project deadline or shorten the overall project duration, the Gantt View operates on a sliding scale allowing you to easily drag and edit project timelines in seconds.

While your project tasks aren’t viewable at a glance in the Gantt View, you can always click directly into any project in the Gantt View to add, edit, or update the associated tasks.

With the Gantt View, you will always have a concrete understanding of your projects’ deadlines, allowing you to shift focus and prioritize your projects accordingly to ensure their timely completion.

Upside(s) of Gantt View:

  • Only chart that allows for drag-and-drop project timeline adjustments.

  • Easily view and compare project timelines at a glance.

  • Color-code your projects for easy visual recognition.

Setback(s) of Gantt View:

  • Your project's tasks are not visible/editable until the project is selected.

  • Unable to view your project's priority status at a glance like you can with List or Kanban Views.

The Kanban View

How to Use the Kanban View

The Kanban View is the essence of performance and efficiency. Combining the detail of the List View with the overview qualities of the Gantt View; it really is the best of both worlds.

The Kanban View breaks down each workspace project into clean and customizable sections with concise, yet detailed overviews of each associated task for a particular project. At a glance you can view each of your project’s task statuses, priorities, deadlines, assignees, and even add labels directly to the task.

The Kanban offers a simplified and streamlined scope of your projects and their associated tasks allowing you to quickly review, edit, or update any task in your project.

Upside(s) of Kanban View:

  • Brief, yet effectively detailed overview of all your Projects and Tasks in Motion.

  • Sort your projects by dragging and dropping the project tiles.

  • Neat and efficient layout presenting maximal information and minimal clutter.

Setback(s) of Kanban View:

  • Your project's tasks are not visible/editable until the project is selected.

Conclusion

Whatever your project management needs require, Motion has a project view to fit your needs. Whether you prefer the abundantly detailed perspective of the List View, the timeline-oriented layout of the Gantt View, or the sleek and informative format of the Kanban View; Motion has you covered.
