Motion Display Options (Dark Mode, Start Week On, Task Breaks)

Summary:

Motion offers several customizable display options to enhance your experience and suit your personal preferences.

Motion’s display options include the following:

  • Dark Mode & Light Mode: Choose your preferred display theme to reduce eye strain and enhance readability.

  • Start Week On: Customize your calendar to begin on Sunday or Monday for better alignment with your schedule.

  • Task Breaks: Add customizable intervals between tasks to stay refreshed and productive.

This article, outlines how to adjust and utilize Motion’s display options. Let’s dive in!

1. Theme Settings

Motion’s theme settings allow you to choose between Light Mode, Dark Mode, or System Mode for a visually comfortable experience:

  • Light Mode: Ideal for bright environments and daytime usage.

  • Dark Mode: Reduces eye strain in low-light settings or during nighttime use.

  • System Mode: Automatically adjusts to your personal device’s default theme settings.

Example:

If your personal device switches to Dark Mode at sunset, selecting “System Mode” in Motion will ensure a seamless transition, aligning with your system’s appearance settings.

Switching between Light and Dark Modes can significantly enhance readability and reduce eye strain based on lighting conditions, making your experience more comfortable and efficient.

To update your Motion Theme:

  1. Go to “Settings” ⚙️.

  2. Under “General”, select “Theme”.

  3. Choose your preferred option: “Light Mode”, “Dark Mode”, or “Use System Setting”.

⚠️ Reminder: If your device switches to Dark Mode at sunset, choose “System Setting” in Motion to match your device’s theme automatically.

2. Start Week On: Sunday or Monday

Motion lets you decide whether your week should start on Sunday or Monday in the calendar view.

  • Sunday Start: Commonly preferred in the United States and other regions where Sunday is more commonly considered the first day of the week.

  • Monday Start: Aligns with ISO standards and is preferred in business settings or regions where Monday commonly marks the beginning of the workweek.

⚠️ Please Note: This setting is purely cosmetic and for display purposes and does not influence task scheduling or deadlines.

Example: If you choose Monday as the start of the week, your calendar view will show weeks starting from Monday.

Adjusting the calendar’s starting day can improve planning and task visualization by aligning with your cultural, personal, or professional preferences.

There are Two Ways to Change Your ‘Start Week On’ Display:

Option 1:

  1. Go to “Settings”.

  2. Under “General”, select “Theme”.

  3. Under “Start week on”, select either Sunday or Monday.

Option 2:

  1. Select ‘Display Options’ from atop Motion’s Calendar interface.

  2. Select ‘Start Week On’ and choose between Sunday or Monday.

  3. You will see these changes immediately impacted on your calendar display.

3. Breaks Between Tasks

Breaks between tasks allow for a customized, designed cadence in your day ensuring you are always feeling mentally refreshed and ready to tackle the next task.

In Motion, you can customize the duration of breaks to match your workflow.

  • You can set breaks between tasks during scheduling to prevent burnout and maintain productivity.

  • Breaks can be as short as 15 minutes or as long as an hour, depending on your preferences.

Example:

If you have a variety of tasks scheduled throughout the day, add a 15-minute break between each task allowing yourself time to stretch your legs, grab a coffee, and mentally recharge before diving into the next task.

Incorporating regular breaks enhances focus, reduces mental fatigue, and ensures better mental performance throughout the day.

How to schedule Task Breaks:

  1. Go to “Settings”.

  2. Under “General”, select “Auto-scheduling”.

  3. Under “Break Between Tasks”, toggle the option “On”, and select the break duration and cadence that fits your preference.

Conclusion:

Whether it's optimizing your theme, adjusting your calendar's start day, or ensuring regular breaks by customizing these settings, you can create a workspace that best suits your preferences. These simple changes can help you stay focused, productive, and energized throughout the day.
