Note: This article assumes you've read "Why Tasks Look Different on the Calendar (Task States & Task Types)" [Link]. If you haven't, we recommend starting there for foundational concepts.
For lengthy or complex tasks, Motion allows you to break them down into smaller, more manageable blocks of time called ‘chunks’.
The minimum chunk size is a 15-minute period. The typical maximum chunk length is half the overall duration of that task.
Ex: An 8-hour task will have a maximum chunk option of 4 hours.
Chunked tasks are represented on the calendar by a fraction symbol that represents the number of chunks the particular task was split into (1/2, 2/3, 3/4, etc)
For example: a 1/2 symbol on a chunked task suggests the task is part of a partially completed task block split into two chunks.
Allow Motion's AI algorithm to break tasks into smaller, more manageable pieces; ensuring efficient and effective scheduling of longer tasks.
Helps avoid task burnout by spreading the work of long tasks across multiple sessions.
Ensures steady progress on long-term tasks while still allowing you to focus on other tasks and responsibilities.
Let’s say you use Motion to balance both your professional and personal lives; creating a busy schedule full of tasks and events. This schedule has limited availability outside of a few 30-min gaps spread throughout the week.
With that in mind, let’s say you have a 2-hour task that you want to complete by the end of the week, but you are having a hard time finding a 2-hour window to schedule this task amongst your busy schedule.
Well you might consider breaking this task into chunks. Breaking the task into four 30-minute chunks will ensure you are able to schedule the full task effectively in your gaps of available free time.
As task chunks can be scheduled at any point between their creation date and their deadline, they provide flexibility and optimization; ensuring you complete your large task by its assigned deadline.
